Gustavo is an immigration attorney in St. Louis Missouri. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Missouri and the Republic of Colombia. Gustavo obtained in Colombia both his Law Degree and a Specialization in Labor Law and Social Security. In the United States, he obtained both a Master of Arts in Human Services with emphasis in Human Resources Management from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and a Master of Laws from St. Louis University, in St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to migrating to the United States, Gustavo practiced law in Colombia for six years.
After finishing his Master of Arts in Human Services, Gustavo worked for four years at the Political Asylum Project of Austin, which is now called American Gateways, where he exclusively managed the family based immigration, adjustment and citizenship programs.
Gustavo represents clients before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals. He has assisted and represented numerous clients before the Immigration Court and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services agency (USCIS) in matters such as Adjustment of Status, Naturalization, Visas for Immigrant Victims of Crimes, Visas for a Severe Form of Trafficking in Persons, Self-Petitions for Battered Spouses and Children under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Asylum, Temporary Protection Status, Cancellation of Removal, Consular Processing, Inadmissibility Waivers, and in general, family-based immigrant petitions, business immigrant petitions, as well as a variety of other non-immigrant visa applications.
Gustavo integrates his skills acquired in both his Master of Arts in Human Services and his Master of Laws to diligently assist, advise and represent his clients before the Immigration Court and/or the USCIS.
The Mexican State Department or Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores de México has designated Gustavo as an Ad Honorem consultant attorney to provide his professional services in the jurisdiction of the Mexican Consulate in Kansas City, Missouri. Gustavo is an activist who continuously, and through his law firm and/or with the support of the Missouri Immigrant and Refugee Advocates organization, disseminates in the immigrant community information relevant to their rights through his “Know Your Right” presentations given to different groups, community centers, parishes, etc.
Gustavo is a frequent speaker in radio shows that are aired nationwide through CarisMedia Radio. He periodically writes for a local bi-lingual newspaper, El Mundo Latino, about current immigration issues. He is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Gustavo was a member of the board for Manos Unidas, an organization dedicated to assist immigrants in the St. Louis region. He was one of the founding members of the Austin-Colombia Human Rights Group.
Gustavo speaks Spanish and has basic knowledge of Portuguese. He is a member of the St Louis Professional Latino Action Network and actively participates in any event oriented to help the immigrant community in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
